Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Belgian Deputy PM Discuss Trade, Regional Concerns

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday met with the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Sophie Wilmes in Brussels where they discussed ways to further develop closer cooperation in different areas.

“[We] exchanged views on shared regional concerns and need for strong cooperation in security and trade,” PM Barzani wrote on Twitter.

During the meeting, Wilmes thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for the facilitation provided to the Belgian missions in Iraq and Syria, expressing Brussels’ readiness to further expand its relations with Erbil.

PM Barzani commended Belgium for the assistance it provided to the Peshmerga forces as part of the US-led Global Coalition to combat the Islamic State, according to a press release by the KRG.

He reiterated Kurdistan Region’s commitment to strengthening peaceful coexistence as it is home to a diverse society.

PM Barzani arrived in Brussels on Wednesday and held separate meetings with Belgian Prime Minister and Flemish President-Minister to discuss bilateral ties among other topics.
