By official invitation from the Socialist International executive committee, the Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office Hemin Hawrami is participating at the SI council meeting in New York City.
The Council will address matters central to the concerns of our movement and of the international community, including Security, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change and the forthcoming COP21 summit that is taking place later this year.
Mr Hawrami delivered a speech which highlighted the current political and economic situation in the Kurdistan Region, including the war on on terrorism where Kurdish fighters and leaders are intent on carving an independent state out of Northern Iraq after they wrest back vital territory from the Islamic State.
On the sidelines of the event, Mr Hawrami held brief talks with George Pandruyas, president of Socialist International to exchange views on the challenges facing Kurdistan such as the humanitarian issues and military role in fighting terror.
Mr Pandruyas praised the role of Kurdish Peshmergas for their achievements and conveyed his greetings to President Massoud Barzani.
